News Release 5 - Total E&P UK Ltd

Aberdeen, 26 March 2012 – Following a gas leak from the Elgin field on Sunday 25 March, TOTAL E&P UK Limited (TEP UK) confirms all 238 personnel have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported. 150 non-essential personnel have now been returned to Aberdeen and a further 69 non-essential crew remain safe offshore on neighbouring installations.
As a precautionary measure, due to the ongoing nature of the situation offshore, the 19 core crew who had initially remained on board the Elgin PUQ (Processing, Utilities & Quarters) platform have been flown back to Aberdeen (arriving at 03.28), leaving the platform unmanned and powered down.
As regards the sheen that was reported in the vicinity of the installation at the time of the incident yesterday, an aerial surveillance flight from Southampton is scheduled for arrival in the Elgin field at approximately 07.30 hrs.
Investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the ongoing gas leak and TEP UK is monitoring the situation closely. TEP UK is cooperating fully with all relevant authorities including the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).
Emergency procedures continue to focus on the welfare of all personnel involved and responding appropriately to the situation.
